Caterpillar Associate Engineer Overview
Caterpillar is hiring Associate Engineers for the Drawing Standard Checking role at their Thiruvallur location. This is a quality gate role in the product development lifecycle where you will review engineering drawings and models in Teamcenter to ensure they meet Caterpillar’s strict drawing standards before release to manufacturing. It’s a great opportunity for mechanical/design engineers who have strong knowledge of Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), GD&T, and attention to detail.
This is a pure drawing checking/quality assurance role in mechanical engineering — not a design or development position. Mandatory hands-on experience with Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) and good knowledge of GD&T is required. Best suited for candidates who enjoy detail-oriented work and are interested in joining a global manufacturing giant. Freshers with strong Creo academic projects can apply; however, internal Caterpillar candidates receive preference.
Key Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings and 3D models in Teamcenter for compliance with Caterpillar drawing standards
- Check dimensional accuracy, GD&T application, tolerance strategy, and design intent
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and current product improvement programs
- Provide constructive feedback to design engineers and help resolve drawing issues
- Support the engineering change management and drawing release process
- Assist in basic data analysis and reporting using Power BI / Advanced Excel (stretch opportunity)
- Ensure drawing quality for smooth manufacturing handoff
Eligibility Criteria for Caterpillar Associate Engineer
Mandatory Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Pro/ENGINEER (Creo) — Mandatory
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with global teams
- Willingness to work onsite 5 days a week in Thiruvallur
Preferred / Added Advantage
- Degree in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering or related field
- Experience with Teamcenter or other PLM systems
- Knowledge of Caterpillar drawing standards (preferred for internal candidates)
- Basic data analytics skills (Power BI, Advanced Excel)
- Understanding of off-highway equipment or heavy machinery
