athenahealth is hiring Associate Member of Technical Staff (AMTS) – Backend Engineers for their Bengaluru (Whitefield) office. This role focuses on building scalable Node.js/Express microservices that power internal workflows and automation. You will work with a modern tech stack including Redis, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and AWS services.
This is a strong Backend Engineer role with good exposure to Node.js ecosystem and multiple databases. Candidates with 6 months to 2 years of experience in Node.js, Express, Redis, and any of MongoDB/PostgreSQL/DynamoDB will be a good fit. Freshers with strong personal projects in this stack can also apply. Excellent opportunity to work in healthcare technology with modern backend practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Node.js + Express
- Implement caching, rate limiting, background jobs, and state management with Redis
- Work with polyglot databases – MongoDB (aggregation), PostgreSQL (relational), DynamoDB (high-scale)
- Ensure high code quality through testing, code reviews, and CI/CD
- Implement observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and basic security practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business workflows into technical solutions
Eligibility Criteria for athenahealth AMTS Backend Engineer
Mandatory Requirements
- 6 months – 2 years of relevant backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and Express
- Hands-on experience with Redis (caching, queues, pub/sub)
- Practical experience with MongoDB (CRUD, indexing, aggregation)
- Familiarity with DynamoDB concepts (partition keys, GSIs, etc.)
- Basic AWS knowledge (IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, compute services)
- Good understanding of REST API design and Git/CI-CD practices
Preferred / Added Advantage
- TypeScript-first development
- Experience with asynchronous processing and event-driven architecture
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation)
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL and data migration strategies
