IBM Research Intern – AI Overview
IBM Research – India is hiring Research Interns in AI for its Summer Internship Program at Bangalore and Gurgaon labs. The internship runs for a maximum of 3 months between May and August 2027. You will work on research projects in Large Language Models, AI agents, AI accelerator software and related areas under the guidance of IBM researchers.
Strong research internship at IBM Research for students who already have solid Python + ML/DL fundamentals and can read research papers. Best for people aiming at research/AI careers rather than pure software development. CGPA 7.0+ is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities / Research Areas
- Building and scaling Large Language Models
- Agentic systems that work with small language models
- Auto evolution of agents including testing and debugging of agents
- Software stack for AI Accelerator cards
- Intersection of data and AI, programmable language models
- Read, understand and critically analyse research papers; reproduce results and design controlled experiments
Eligibility Criteria for IBM Research Intern – AI
Must-Have Requirements
- Currently pursuing B.E / B.Tech, M.E / M.Tech (including Dual Degree) or Ph.D
- Minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA and above in the pursuing degree
- Strong programming fundamentals in Python
- Solid understanding of Machine Learning and Deep Learning
- Familiarity with Large Language Models, Generative AI, Transformers and NLP
- Ability to read research papers and implement ideas from them
Preferred: Exposure to RL libraries, PyTorch, hands-on experience implementing research ideas
